Blog Review: Whispering Corridor Takes Whispers to a New Level

Although his blog is titled “Whispering Corridor,” here’s a blogger who isn’t afraid to speak his mind. In his eclectic blog, he writes about “Reviews, general news, music-related news, great deals, and anything else that is on my mind.”

Whispering Corridor tackles some controversial issues, such as assisted suicide and the role of Christianity in child rearing. Music and movie reviews are interspersed between the more serious topics and there are a number of website reviews. Although an apparently-active Internet user, the author writes that he would prefer to shop in a brick and mortar store over buying products online. This is so that he can see if potential clothing purchases will fit right, to make sure that an item is not damaged, and so forth. In many ways, this makes sense — although I would have to disagree when it comes to books, hardware and other lower ticket items.

Whispering Corridor is an interesting blog, but be forewarned. Music will blast on after your first couple of seconds. Powered by a music box in the sidebar of the blog, there’s a selection of Jim Hendrix tunes that automatically launch. You have to pause or stop the player if you don’t want to listen. When I visited blog, I happened to be listening to a marketing interview that was sort of faint and had my speakers up pretty loud so I could hear the interview. I wasn’t expecting music to launch when clicking on the site. The tunes almost blew me out of my chair. The problem is that the music box refreshes on each page — so if you pause or stop the player, it turns back on when you go to another page. I imagine that if you started listening to a tune and like it, it would be interrupted and start over again by the time you go to another blog page. For this reason, Whispering Corridor is far from a whisper.

So before visiting Whispering Corridor, make sure your speakers are off — unless you want to hear some great Hendrix tunes. The written content is a good read.

Nice post. I am alwyas a bit uncomfortable with controversy especially when in the public domain. And you are right - I don't like the music. Thanks for the warning!
