When I visited Canyon de Chelly earlier this month, I had a rare encounter with watching television (something I just don’t do). Maybe it’s because I don’t watch TV that I was so aware of the constant negativity that was broadcast 24/7.
One news story after another had to do with the gloom and doom of the economy, the failure of the big three auto companies, terrorist threats and, of all things, Spam flying off the grocery store shelves because people couldn’t afford to eat anything else.
The constant depressing propaganda was mesmerizing. After a few hours of it, I was ready to crawl into a hole and sleep all of the time.
I honestly believe that the first step toward achieving financial independence is to turn off the television and start doing something constructive. We become what we think about, and if we’re constantly tuned into negative messages, we’ll become negative in our thinking.
