Thanksgiving has come and gone and we have just a few short days left before 2008 is over. To get everything done that we need to do before 2009, there’s a surefire way for success: Turn off the TV!
As someone who does not watch television unless traveling, I’m usually shocked by what I see on the rare occasions that I do watch TV. I mentioned this in yesterday’s article promoting self improvement gifts. Hours of time spent before the television is perhaps one of the most mindless, self-defeating addictions legally available.
Network – Well Worth a Watch.
This came from the 1970s. People who are offended by swear words should not watch.
Unhappy People Watch More TV Than Contented People.
Turn Off Your TV features some fascinating articles about the effects of television watching. Add to these findings a study reported by CTV (updated November 17, 2008), which stated that sociologists from the University of Maryland found that people who describe themselves as unhappy watch 20 per cent more television than those who consider themselves to be very happy.
Junk Media.
This video, “Is Junk Media Making You Sick?”, is a bit outdated, but the news clips are well worth watching.
Conclusion – Own Your Own Mind Again.
To succeed in an online business, I think that the TV needs to be shut off … or, watched in strict moderation. Like food, television can be addicting and it might be a challenge to to moderate the time spent watching it. TV’s programming dictates to us our fashion choices, our political viewpoints, our food choices, our willingness to go to war. I’d much rather think for myself, thank you!
The music style isn’t my cup of tea in the following video, but the words about television being the drug of a nation echo a lot of what I believe.
