Earlier this month, I reported on some techniques that were speculated to increase the Alexa Traffic Rank. One of the suggested ways to increase Alexa ranking was to add the Alexa badge to a site. I added a badge on November 30 to test the theory out. At that time, Alexa was reporting two different statistics and was apparently updating. Here is the Alexa traffic rank progression from November 30 to December 16:

Since the beginning of the experiment, there has definitely been an increase in Alexa traffic rank. However, there are a couple of other factors that may have affected the rank.
First, I submitted this blog to Nickoo Shore’s blog, which has a good “dofollow” comment blog listing. About 50 visitors have come to this site so far this month directly from the dofollow list.
Second, I submitted another article to Article Marketing Automation, which has now published over 210 unique backlinks to this site.
Other than that, I haven’t done anything to increase traffic due to my work schedule. I’ll continue to monitor this to see if the theory that adding Alexa’s badge to a web page is myth or if it really works.

I think, placing Alexa badget cannot increase your alexa rank. It only increase by traffic to your site
i dont think because the widget, more to the submission you made which make the increase..but keep inform us for update…
Hello There,
Alexa rank has no direct link to the overall traffic you are receiving. If you want your Alexa rank to improve, you need more visitors with Alexa toolbar installed in their browsers. That is all to it.

Yes Marble Host –
My previous articles about Alexa recommend the toolbar installation and it is the most obvious Alexa traffic solution.
I have reviewed a number of suggestions, including the badge, in previous posts. People are suggesting that the badge be used but its results are only speculation. For that reason, I tested it. Some people swear that it makes a significant difference; others like me are on the fence. I might try it on a brand new site and not include it on another brand new site to see if there is any difference.

Alexa is a very important benchmark to determine the rankings and traffic of sites. Google is placed at the 2nd position as per Alexa rankings and traffic rankings and is facing tough competition from Live.com and of course Yahoo.
One important thing in increasing alexa is by trying to increase the number of visitors into your web or blog.
The increase in Alexa ranking after putting up a badge is a an indication that some of your visitors are not Alexa toolbar users.
I tried increasing alexa rank just my installing the alexa toolbar in the firefox browser. It jumped from like 800k to 200k within a month! Maybe I visit the site too much!
I think too alexa rank is easier to obtain in some categories. Webmasters are more like to have the alexa toolbar installed and therefore if your site is a webmaster site its probably easier to get rank than say if your site is about planting pink roses!
I’m glad your traffic spiked so highly, Coding Guy!
Webmasters probably are much more likely to have the toolbar installed than other people, and that makes a big difference in the type of traffic predictions Alexa can make.
If your site has regular visitors, having the badge helps because they download the alexa app and you get a higher than average block of users who have it, so whatever ratios they use to determine rank get skewed.
Wow! Thank you!
I always wanted to write in my site something like that. Can I take part of your post to my site?
Of course, I will add backlink?
Sincerely, Your Reader

Does it work if I hide alexa widgets with CSS but leave the code on footer? the widget is too ugly.
i think placing alexa badget don´t increase your alexa rank, it increases with the traffic in your site.
This is such an interesting post. I had no idea about any of this, except about adding the Toolbar.Interestingly, my alexa ranking has increased phenomenally since I moved my blogger account to WordPress in just 5 weeks time.Memes, original unique content, forums, etc. have been critical…I was just honestly trying hard to increase traffic to my blog, and not manipulate the ranking. I only installed the alexa ranking widget after I reached the 800K the # I left when I went offline last year. In a week I’m already at 500K. You definitely got me thinking over here…(a good thing too)
I subscribed to your Feed as a result.Thank you very much. keep it up!!
i’m not very sure, but maybe you had increased your visitors more because of the links than because of Alexa… i suspect that, but i hope i’m wrong! tell as more about the experiment, because it is helping many of us with our blogs!i’ll keep reading!
I don’t think the tool bar really works to increase traffic.
