Well, it’s not quite the speed of thought, but what has been dubbed “Internet 2″ is incredibly fast.

As the Fox News interview says below, Internet 2 will be 10,000 times faster than the Internet as we know it today.  The implications for business are awesome — for instance, the broadcast of Internet telephone conferences, live stream business meetings and so on.

The first test for Internet 2 is scheduled for this summer, and subsequent tests are anticipated for a year.

An entirely new network will need to be developed to transmit information over Internet 2.

I suspect that people wanting Internet 2 will need to pay quite a bit more than what they are paying now, and those unable to afford it will continue with the current version of the Internet.

If you have a site that deals with strange or unusual things (like UFOs or ghosts) and possibly conspiracy theories, you need to sign up for an account over at Godlike Productions, which is an amazingly active forum.  Read through some of the posts to get familiar with it.  Some of them are childish; others have some pretty interesting articles.

Provide a link to a page on your site in either a new thread or as a response and you will get tons of traffic within seconds.  Make sure you stay “engaged” in your thread on the forum so it’s clear that you’re not spamming.  Here’s a screen shot of some traffic I’ve seen just by posting a couple of links a few minutes ago.

This traffic stream will go on for the next hour or so.  I usually get at least 100 unique visitors a day using this method, but you do need to be creative and engaged in the forum.

It never ceases to amaze me how the price of laptop computers is going down.  You can get netbooks now for under $300 through Tiger and quality laptop computers for under$600.

I’ve used Tiger Direct for years and years because of their tremendous customer service, prices and speed of delivery.  I was floored to see their prices on netbooks this morning.

If your work is primarily online and email related, a netbook may suit you just fine.  You can also use it for some word processing applications.  For a machine with “more juice” so to speak, you’re better off with a laptop or notebook that has more processing power.  The prices for all have really gone down over the years.  Check it out.

File conversions can be a challenge, especially if you have downloaded a file that is not compatible with the software that is installed on your computer.  A big problem seems to be PDF conversions; i.e., converting a document into a PDF file without having to buy Adobe Acrobat, and vice versa.

Many are also using Open Office, which is a free alternative to Microsoft Office and, for the most part, compatible with Microsoft Office.

When I was looking for another conversion tool yesterday, I happened to find a free online tool called Comet that offers all sorts of data conversions for PDF, Open Office and Microsoft products.  It also has some very useful spreadsheet conversions that you might not find anywhere else for free.

One of the things I was impressed with was that it offered some free conversions that you would normally have to pay for, like these:

• Excel to CSV
• XML to LINT
• HTML to RSS

The HTML to RSS is very valuable if you would like to make an RSS feed of your site avaialble for your own promotional blogs or other blogs.

It’s been raining here all week and the sun just peaked out for Memorial Day festivities.  I have people coming over but before I fire up the grill, started downloading some cool things from the Memorial Day Giveaway.

Warrantless Searches by the FCC

Wired wrote a disturbing article about the fact that using a 1930s law, the FCC can enter your home without a warrant to see that anything running in your house that uses RF (radio frequency) energy is not creating a disturbance.  According to Wired, devices that use RF energy include “a wireless router, a cordless phone, remote car-door opener, baby monitor or cellphone in your house.”

If you don’t let the FCC inspectors in, you can face hefty fines.

Constitutional law professors and privacy right advocates question the legality of this policy.

Yesterday was a big day in Internet marketing, with thousands of online marketers signing up for Michael Cheney’s Delta Squad program.

For just $1, you get a 30-day trial membership in Michael’s marketing program that will show you how to potentially make $1 million in 7 days.  The offer suggests that there are a huge array of videos and tools that have all of us salivating to find out more!  In fact, for just $1, subscribers receive  immediate access to a $1,997 course.

Of course, I signed up and then was puzzled when the shopping cart didn’t send a receipt.  I checked my bank account and the preliminary $1was pending processing.  I did not receive a log in page so have no idea what was available in the membership.

Like thousands of others around the globe, I submitted a support request ticket and have not heard anything back.

Here’s What Happened …
