It’s Time to Update Your Health Sites; Make Sure You Include Disclaimers

Posted on May 2nd, 2009 by Urbain

If you have not heard, the FDA has recalled the diet product, Hydroxycut, citing health complications that include liver problems and possible death for persons who use it.

What this means is that you need to remove any affiliate links you might have to Hydroxycut.

When you have a health-related site, it’s always important to include a disclaimer just in case a health product or supplement is deemed to be harmful. You can easily paste it into the footer of your web pages, and then add it to your terms, conditions and privacy statements.

I like to use affiliate programs that already have the disclaimers written up, and then I incorporate the disclaimers in my main pages. Also, with good health related affiliate programs, the companies “stay on top of the game” and update their feeds and products to comply with any FDA warnings.

One of the better programs is MarketHealth.com, which gives you datafeeds, entire websites (with the disclaimer) and many other tools.

Here’s an example of disclaimer language that I use and that you can copy and paste for your sites. Before using this language, understand that this is not legal advice and that you are using the language at your own risk and that you assume sole responsibility for the disclaimers and representations on your web site(s). You need to consult with your lawyer. The content that I use is a mix of PLR and information that has been reviewed by medical practitioners. You might need to change the language around to match your site. Be sure and include a strong policies page that addresses medical and health issues as well as privacy policies, terms of use and other critical topics.
