Internet Memories

Posted on May 19th, 2009 by Urbain

Many of us take the Internet for granted nowadays. When I was cleaning out my storage shed, I found some old pieces of software, like DOS 6.0 which was way cool then. When I tossed that old gem out, it reminded me of just how far we’ve come.

Here’s a video from the 1960s that envisioned what we know of the Internet and home networking systems today. You’ll see how outdated it is because of comments such as “the wife” having a career as a homemaker who makes a bunch of purchases and “the husband” having to pay for all the purchases.

In the early 1990s, a Canadian news station presented an in-depth look at the Internet, which was a new technology back then. They were raising questions about Internet regulation and privacy concerns, two issues that remain very important today.

Distrust About Online Spending.

I still meet quite a few people who are afraid to make a purchase on the Internet because they think it is unsafe and that their credit card information will be stolen. This 1997 commercial attempts to address that fear.

It will be fun to see where Internet technology will be in another 20 or 30 years! There have been some predictions that our brains will be wired directly into the Internet.
