Downloads. We’re using them daily.
On a given day, you might download some mp3s, a software program, maybe a few zip files with PLR articles. Before you know it, you have 100 or so downloads and you can’t find the specific one that you want.
If you want to find those downloads in the future, it is smart to organize them from the very beginning. Just saving your downloads by your Internet browser’s default (which usually places them on your desktop) creates a cluttered mess. And saving them to one folder, such as My Documents, can get confusing because the download file names do not always explain what the contents include.
Here’s how I manage my downloads. I can find anything at anytime.
I use Firefox. The screenshots are from my Firefox applicatation.
STEP ONE. With your Firefox browser open, click the link on the top of the screen that reads “Tools.” The Tools drop down menu will display an “Options” link. You want to click that.

STEP TWO. The Options screen has a section about downloads. Click “Show the Downloads window when downloading a file” option and make sure that you tick the “Always ask me where to save my files” option. Your screen should look exactly like the screen shot below.

STEP THREE – USING FOLDERS. I generally store my downloads on my external hard drive (which has a lot of space) and that I have organized with different folders. If you followed Step Two above, you can create a folder where you want it as part of the download process. I’ve shown a screen shot of a portion of my Drive F just so you can see how I have all of this organized. What is nice about creating folders is that if you are downloading a file that has been compacted into a ZIP file, your zip extraction will move the documents into the folder that you created.

Some of the most economical external hard drives are the Seagate models, that plug into a USB port. They are super easy to use and come in a variety of sizes. If you’re like me and have gig after gig of download to deal with, you’ll love Seagate’s products. Click the picture and you’ll see how much they cost and what’s available.
