We are wired for novelty, says a psychologist who helps people with procrastination. Because of its constantly new information, that’s why the Internet can be such a distraction.
Regardless of whether we’re wired for wasting time online or not, companies say that they lose billions of dollars every year because the average employee spends at least two hours a day on non-work related sites.
All of us who work with computers know how easy it is to waste time online. We might visit a forum, YouTube or Myspace with the intent to check things out for a few minutes but before we know it, a whole hour or two has gone by and we have accomplished nothing.
