I had assumed that a scientist friend of mine was familiar with Snopes, and he had never heard of it — and was very happy for the referral.  If by chance you haven’t been there, check it out.  There’s a lot of fun data there — and definitely some interesting stories to inspire you if you’re writing web articles and stories.
