Changing the Look and Adding Mage

Posted on October 30th, 2009 by Urbain

I will be changing the look of this site and using it to test the “Mage” affliate plug-in within the next day or two.  So if the site appears to be down or in maintenance mode, that’s what is happening.

From what I have seen, Mage looks like a promising method to help people make some money online.  Stay tuned for more info!

A Quick Video Tip

Posted on October 29th, 2009 by Urbain

Hey all!  I am out of town at the moment, so I don’t have much to report today.

For those who are new here, however, I was reminded again of an excellent free video program that I wrote about many months ago.  As a matter of fact, I’ve just used it again while translating some audios for another site.

Memories On Web has an easy-to-use interface that lets you add images, add and edit sound to go with the images, and then add special effects.  It will also create an .AVI file on the fly and upload it to your YouTube account.

There’s a great review here.

YouTube videos are a fantastic way to advertise your website.  With Memories On Web, you can create attractive videos easily and without breaking your budget.

Have a fun Halloween weekend!

GeoCities Closes

Posted on October 28th, 2009 by Urbain

One of the reasons I don’t do a lot of promoting on free sites is because there’s no guarantee they’ll be around forever.  I am not saying not to do it … there is some benefit.  But there’s no long term guarantee.

Yahoo had purchased GeoCities in 1999 for a whopping $3.57 billion, offering free web hosting that had advertisements on them.  The technology became outmoded with Facebook and other social networking sites.

GeoCities was around for 15 years, dishing up some truly awful websites and some interesting personal sites.  Personally, I think it was the precursor to Facebook, Squidoo and others and a true pioneer in making the Internet usable for everyone.

Privacy on the Worldwide Web

Posted on October 27th, 2009 by Urbain

Is every click that you make being recorded somewhere?  When it comes to privacy and use of the Internet, World Wide Web inventor Tim Berners-Lee says that Internet users need to be responsible for “keeping an eye out” to protect the freedom and anonymity of the Web.

I thought his thoughts were well worth sharing here. One of his observations that surprised me is that 80% of the world population is not online yet. He asked that we consider the implications of what the web will be like when those people come online.

The Cellulite Case Study – Now No. 1

Posted on October 25th, 2009 by Urbain

When I started out this case study on October 4, 2009, I chose the domain “Cellulite Is” based on the keyword research.  I was hoping at that time that I could meet or beat the #3 position in Google.  The site went live on October 13.

Yesterday, we were at #10.

Today, we are at #1.

I’ve done article marketing and submitted “blurbs” to the network of blogs that I am setting up for you folks to use.  I am going to continue with the link building so this site will see some revenue and to target the same keyword phrase in quotes.  Currently, there have been a number of clicks to Amazon products, but no buys.

The Cellulite Case Study: 10/24/2009 Report

Posted on October 24th, 2009 by Urbain

When we started this out, the keyphrase I choose was “cellulite is.”  This morning, the page is now in Google’s top 10 search results for “cellulite is ” (without the quotes).  That’s out of 3,100,000 results.  I’d say that’s not too bad for a site that is not even a month old.

The Cellulite Case Study – 10/23/2009 Report

Posted on October 23rd, 2009 by Urbain

As of today, there are no sales to report — but, items have been clicked.  It’s just a matter of time until we see this site make some money.

The last couple of days, I have been away on business.  However, I did manage to find some time to submit more articles through AMA, which has so far delivered about 14 unique links.  The Magic Article Submission software has yielded approximately 80 unique links so far.

The unique visitor count is at 170.

The site is finally getting some search engine traffic.

For some reason, there is still no page rank at Google, although pages are definitely getting indexed.  Google, Yahoo and MSN are now showing indexed pages.  Here’s the SEO Quake toolbar as of today:

The toolbar is usually slow in reporting Alexa.  The current rank is 1,599,148.

Finally, here’s a snapshot from my Amazon affiliate area.  Cellulite related products are getting clicked … there are no purchases yet.  In time, I think there will be some sales.  What this shows is that targeted traffic is coming in now.

Windows 7 Released

Posted on October 22nd, 2009 by Urbain

Windows 7 is supposed to be faster and better than all of Microsoft’s previous operating system versions … and it is not supposed to create a lot of trouble like the Vista platform created.  Many of us did not bother switching to Vista because of the hardware conflicts it created. Vista was also notorious for software conflicts that it had with programs such as Quickbooks.

Upgrading a Vista system to Windows 7 is supposed to be easy, but XP users are going to have trouble.  Applications will have to be backed up and uninstalled before Windows 7 can be loaded, which will probably be too much aggravation for most of us.
